Scholarship

Heart of Illinois Mensa participates in the Mensa Education and Research Foundation annual scholarship program. The Mensa Foundation is a philanthropic 501(c)(3) organization that provides scholarships and awards in pursuit of excellence in intelligence. This unique college scholarship program is based entirely on an essay submission judged by Mensa members. There is no financial need assessment, no grades review and no academic qualifier. Applicants however, must live the geographic area of a participating Mensa local group.

Essays must be not more than 550 words, and are devoted to the single topic of explaining the applicant's academic and/or vocational goals. Heart of Illinois Mensa's Scholarship committee determine the best local submissions, based on content, grammar, organization, and craftsmanship and sends them on to the regional committee. There, the judging process is repeated and the best are sent on to the National Committee where final determinations are made and awards are handed out.
