Heart of Illinois Mensa

HoIM Officers

Our Executive Committee is made up of the Local Secretary, Deputy Local Secretary, and Treasurer. The Newsletter editor, Gifted Children Coordinator and other local officers are appointed by the LocSec.

Scott grew up in the small town of Milan, Illinois and attended Black Hawk College and Western Illinois University.  Scott currently serves as director of operations for a growing healthcare management company.  In his spare time, he also serves as the President of the Kennekuk Road Runners, the largest primarily off-road running club in the midwest.  He has been a member of Mensa since 2000.  Scott is married to a wonderful woman and is the father to three great kids, including a certain young mensan pictured below.   He succeeded Jack Walsh as LocSec in 2005 and also currently pulls triple duty as the gifted children coordinator and web master.

John Rafael “Jack” Walsh , Deputy Local Secretary/Vice President

A secretive fellow, Jack has yet to write a bio.  What we know, though is he is a dedicated Mensans who has frequently stepped up to keep our group moving forward.  Jack has long been a testing proctor for the group and continues in that roll.  He is also a former Local Secretary of our group.

Kevin Stroud, Treasurer

Kevin grew up near Louisville, Kentucky and did his undergraduate at Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, where he graduated at age 20 with degrees in Computer Engineering and Math.  Immediately out of college, Kevin spent 9 years with the National Security Agency based in Maryland, but traveling extensively including a 3-year assignment to Japan.  While employed at NSA, Kevin picked up his Master's from Johns Hopkins University in Software Engineering.  In the mid-90s he left government employment to enter private industry, founding his first company soon thereafter.  Now an owner of multiple successful businesses, Kevin has three daughters (two of whom are also Mensans) and enjoys the family-oriented activities of Mensa.  He also enjoys running and competitive pistol shooting.  A Mensan since 1989, Kevin has been treasurer of HoIM for 11 years.

Rochelle Weber, Newsletter Editor/Publisher

Rochelle Weber assumed the newsletter editor/publisher duties in 2007.  She is an author, editor, and professional grandma. A native of Chicago, she grew up on the Northwest Side. At 20, she joined the Navy and served as a medic at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA and at the Shipyard Dispensary at Pearl Harbor. She has lived all over the country but always seems to return home to Illinois.  Rochelle wrote her first short story at the age of seven, while recovering from chicken pox. At the age of 37 after many detours, she received a Bachelor’s degree in Writing at Columbia College, Chicago. She currently lives in Rantoul, IL, with her two cats—close enough to bug her two daughters and spoil her five grandchildren.

Scott Hendren, Local Secretary/President

At fifteen years old, Andrew is one of our young mensans.  He previously served as newsletter editor.  As membership Coordinator, Andrew provides information to new members, welcoming then into the group. Andrew was born in Danville in 1992 and now splits his time between Champaign and St. Joseph.  He is currently a freshman at Centennial High School in Champaign.  Andrew has been a member of Mensa since 2002 based upon prior evidence from when he was just eight years old.  He plays the viola in the school orchestra and also enjoys sports, reading, computer and video gaming, and pan-Asian cuisine.   And yes, that’s an old picture :-)
